Pioneer Ridge Volunteers!
Weekly Update for March 10th - 16th
Hello Pioneer Ridge,
So much to announce today! Thanks to all who came to the Homeowner Social on Friday. We had a full house and lots to talk about! If you came to the social, you heard an extra special announcement from Linda McVey, Executive Director of Health Initiatives for the YMCA of Greater Cleveland. Watch your email for a full announcement of this exciting year-long program, available at NO COST TO YOU, coming to Pioneer Ridge. As I said at the Social, I know this new offering is going to change lives. Stay tuned!
Congratulations to the winners of Sunday's Cornhole Tournament: 1st Place - Bob Smith & Tom Schneider, 2nd Place - Nick Chase & Alex Combs, and 3rd Place - Jeanne Sikorski & Dave Galant. To change things up, each competitor drew names to be teamed with someone new. A great afternoon at the Lodge, the next tournament will be Sunday, April 6th.
This week Monday's complimentary Gym RX program will be at 11 a.m. in the Fitness Center and will focus on exercise for the lumbar spine. Handouts will be provided and at this time, we have 5 spots open - if you are free, please pop in and join us!
We have just about 20 seats left for the bus trip to the Hard Rocksino on Friday, May 30th. The cost per person is $28.00 and each of you will receive a $15 slot play.
The Photography Club will meet in the Sunroom Monday evening starting at 7 p.m. New members are always welcomed - please contact Steve Brasure if you have any questions.
For Happy Hour this week Tuesday, the men will meet at City Diner and the women will meet at Bistro 83. Ladies, please contact Peggy Mitchell before 2 p.m. if you plan to attend. Peggy may be a little busy taking interviews this week following her half page, full color photo in Sunday's Plain Dealer - but hopefully she hasn't forgotten who her friends are here at Pioneer Ridge. (If you missed it, Peggy was photographed as first through the gates - for the 6th year in a row - at the Cleveland Indians Spring Training Camp in Arizona. She's a Mega Fan!)
Also in the news this week, resident Chuck Bohland was featured in a huge spotlight article in the Chronicle Telegram showcasing his life's work downtown at the Q. At weekly update time, the article was not yet available on line. Check back here and I will post it when it is on their website.
Mindful Meditation and Balance Yoga will take place Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. respectively. The classes compliment each other very well, but you are welcome to drop in for either. Meditation is $4 and Yoga is $5. Both are taught using a chair - but that doesn't mean the benefits are modified. Try one today!
At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, students from Hawken School will be here at the Lodge completing a survey for a school project about access to health care, and they want to talk to you! Please indulge these bright students with a few moments of your time.
We have a big addition to the calendar coming! The exceptional staff members with JIT Therapy, after listening to many homeowners, have designed a new Aquatics Spine Program to be held here on Friday mornings, beginning in April. Come on Friday, March 28th at 9 a.m. for a free demo of this exciting new program. A community-wide email will be sent out to offer further details.
Euchre Night begins each week at 6:30 p.m. (please note the new time) in the Sun Room - all are welcome to come play. If you have questions, please contact Carolyn Yocom.

Attention Men Golfers! Here at Pioneer Ridge there is a regular Thursday morning Men's Golf Group that plays at Mallard Creek from April through September. If you would like to join in, please email Mike Boytim at email@example.com
In addition to the weekly men's golf (and separate), there is also a Men's Travel Golf Group. This group will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month from April through September at various golf courses. All communication for this group is conducted via email. If you would like to receive emails, including group invitations, please send a message to John Allen at firstname.lastname@example.org before March 15th. A community-wide email will be sent with additional information about this group.
To prepare for our upcoming Run @ the Ridge in June, Jeanne Sikorski and I will be leading the Couch to 5K program on Friday afternoons at 12 p.m. Each week we will use an interval timer to walk / run the 3.1 mile course through the neighborhood and we invite any who would like to join us to meet in front of the Lodge. For this week, we will keep one eye on the weather - please call the Lodge to make sure the roads are clear enough for us to head out. See you then!
Don't forget this Saturday's St. Patrick's Day party beginning at 4 p.m. Registration for this event is now closed.
Tickets are selling fast for this month's Comedy Night scheduled for Thursday, March 27th from 7-9 p.m. Bill Boronkay was the opener for a previous Comedy Night. This time, he's coming as the main act, and is bringing another local comedian to open for him! Tickets are just $10 and include dessert and coffee after the show. Adult family & friends are welcome to join you.
Have you read a great book lately? Join us for Books & Chocolate on Friday, March 21st from 1-2:30 p.m. and meet other book lovers in the neighborhood. Just $2 per person - please bring a book you have read and are willing to swap. Don't have any titles at home? Come read a book from our lending library, then trade it, along with your recommendations, at this fun, social event. We will indulge in some sinful chocolate afterwards and go home with a new book to enjoy. Please sign up to attend before Wednesday the 19th.
There's a little time left to sign up for the Singles / Solos trip to the buffet at the Horseshoe Casino on Sunday, March 16th. Please sign up at the desk by March 12th to join in - carpools will leave the Lodge at 3:45 p.m.
Next Tuesday's AARP Driver Safety Course will begin at 10 a.m. on March 18th. The class is full with a wait list - if you are signed up and are no longer able to attend, kindly let me know as soon as possible. The fee for this class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, payable to the instructor. Complimentary lunch is provided by Marketplace Sponsor, Attorney, Margie Karl. A second class has been scheduled for April - those on the waitlist for March will have first opportunity to sign up. We will continue to offer this program as long as there is significant interest.
For those of you interested in having a lockbox installed on the front of your home, allowing access by the fire department in case of emergency, the form and instructions are now available on our website. Please look on the documents page under Community Governance.
An anonymous donor in the neighborhood awarded the members of the Glee Club with a brand new piano for the Lodge! It was delivered last week and will provide years of quality music to the association. Though the person shall remain nameless, our gratitude for his or her generosity is abundant. Be sure to take a look at this beautiful instrument next time to stop in.
The Sales Team has scheduled another Model Homes Tour for residents on Saturday, March 22nd from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. No need to sign up - simply visit the three new models during that time. A Del Webb Press was circulated in Sunday's Plain Dealer. Many thanks to the volunteers who agreed to be included with testimonials in this issue.
